[karachi-Friends] Fwd: Thinking About Implications of Financial Meltdown

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

As financial meltdown is shaking up under developed as well as developed countries, it will not be out of place to anticipate what
problems can arise and think before hand how to tackle them. Mughal India was six times as prosperous as England. But when they left it, they were six times better off. There was nearly 100 percent literacy in India as everybody learned how to read Quran and then he was able to read Persian which was the official language. In order to make a masjid, one was not only required to provide land and construction material and wages of labor, but also gardens or fields to cover running expenses. So the clerics got handsome salaries and were not afraid of telling the truth for fear of losing their job and income.

The British nationalized all trust property and the clerics were
on streets one fine morning. They decided to continue their job and beg,to survive. They hardly received enough to keep body and soul together.

The slavery lasted full 90 years and intelligent people stopped preparing for the position of Imams. Then Pakistan came into being and people thought they will contribute funds for local masjids. In well to do localities the imams were earning well and in less affluent areas they were earning barely enough to survive. In Karachi, imams (clerics) came from south Panjab and East Bengal. The former remained always unhappy with their limited income and lack of future prospects. But the former thought it was their destiny, so why not to make best use of their spare time. They studied Arabic, holy Quran and Hadiths. They gained impressive knowledge and linked it to current and coming circumstances. So their masjids are far more crowded and their lectures are
heard with more interest and people learn a lot from them.

In case unemployment persists the public contribution will fall
and a limited life might be the only option to survive. In such
circumstances, you might have to choose one course of action.
I leave entirely up to you, which one. Dr Iqbal, a famous poet
 has said:

" Sanober (a tall tree) is captive of clay but has some
freedom as well. It has only one direction to grow; upwards. "

May Allah Almighty guide us to His true path.

                                       Muhammad Javed Iqbal
