[karachi-Friends] AZAADI MUBARAK

[PF:166256] Classical Scholars Who Believed in Salatul Tasbih

SALAATUL TASBIH

Salatul Tasbih For forgiveness of All Sins

Benefits of Salat-Ul-Tasbih

Our Beloved Prophet Mohammed (Sallallaho Alihiwassallam) said to his uncle (father's brother) Sayyiduna Abbass (may Allah be pleased with him) Oh uncle shall I not give you Shall I not grant you Shall I not award you Shall I not do mercy on you When you do 10 things Allah will forgive your sins: of the future and of the past; new and old; those you have forgotten and those you did knowingly; big and small; hidden and revealed. Then he (Sallallaho Alihiwassallam) explained the taught the way to pray Salatul Tasbih and then said if you can pray this salah once a day, if you can not pray once a day then every Friday, and even if this is not possible then once a month and even if this is not possible then once a year and even if this is not possible then at least once in a lifetime (Abu'Dawood & Tirimzi)

'Ikrimah reports from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah said to 'Abbas ibn 'Abdal-Mutalib: "O 'Abbas, O Uncle, shall I not give you, shall I not present to you, shall I not donate to you, shall I not tell you ten things which, if you do, Allah will forgive your first and last sins, past and present sins, intentional and unintentional sins, private and public sins? The ten actions are: pray four rak'at, reciting in every rak'ah al-Fatihah and a surah. And when you finish the Qur'anic recitation of the first rak'ah, say, while standing, 'Subhanallah, al-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar' ['Glory be to Allah. All praise is due to Allah. There is no God except Allah. Allah is the greatest.'] fifteen times. Then make ruku', and while you are in ruku', say the same ten times; then stand, and say the same ten times. Then go down and make sajdah, and while you're in sajdah, say the same ten times. Then sit after the sajdah, and say the same ten times. Then make sajdah, and say the same ten times. Then sit after the second sajdah, and say the same another ten times. That is seventy-five [repetitions of the phrases] in each rak'ah. Do that in each of the four rak'at. If you can pray it once a day, do so. If you cannot, then once every Friday. If you cannot do that, then once a year. And if you cannot do that then once in your life." This is related by Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Ibn Khuzaimah in his sahih, and at-Tabarani. About this hadith al-Munzhiri says: "This hadith has been related through many chains and from a number of companions. The best of them is this one from 'Ikrimah. A group of scholars have graded it to be sahih, including al-Hafez Abu Bakr al-'Ajari, (al-Munzhiri's teachers), Abu Muhammad 'Abdurrahim al-Misri, and Abu al-Hassan al-Maqdisi." Ibn alMubarak says: "The tasbih prayer is a greatly desired act and it is desirable that one should punctually observe it and never neglect it.

Method explained in points below:

Salah al-Tasbih consists of 4 raka`at. It can be performed any time of the day or night except at the makruh times.
The following tasbih is recited seventy-five times in each rak`ah totalling 300 in the 4 raka`at.
Subhaanallaahi walhamdu lillaahi walaa ilaaha illallaahu wallaahu akbar
The method of this salah is as follows:
  • After beginning the salah by saying Allah-u-Akbar recite the thana ', Sura al-Fatiha and a Sura followed by the above tasbih 15 times.
  • Then go into Ruku and after reciting the usual tasbih for ruku` recite the above tasbih 10 times.
  • After standing up from ruku` recite the usual Rabbana Lakal Hamd and thereafter recite the tasbih 10 times.
  • Then go into Sajda and after reciting the usual tasbih for sajda recite the above tasbih 10 times.
  • Then sit up from sajda and recite the tasbih 10 times between the two sajdas.
  • Thereafter go into sajda again and after reciting the usual tasbih for sajda recite the above tasbih 10 times.
  • Then sit after the 2nd sajda (i.e. before standing up for the second rak`ah) and recite the tasbih 10 times.
This adds up to 75 times in one rak`ah. Do the same for the remaining 4 raka`at.

Special notes for Salat-Ul-Tasbih:

1) Do not count loudly. It will break Salah
2) Do not count on fingers or by holding a Bead Tasbih in hand. It is Makruh.
3) You may count by pressing the fingers as a reminder. For example if you are in Ruku. You may press pinky of your right hand first for the first count, then the finger next to it for second count, then the middle finger for third count, following this method untill you reach the thumb Use the same method in Qayam, Sajdah and Jalsa.

4) If missed a count then make it up in the next posture. For example if forgot to recite Tasbih after Surah in Qiyam. Then you may recite Tasbish 20 times instead of 10 in Rukuh after "Subhaana Rabbiyal Azeem". Missed Tasbih cannot be recited in Qiyam after ruku and Jalsa between Sajdah. If you missed the Tasbih in Ruku then recite 20 in the first Sajdah instead of the Qiyam after rukuh. Similarly if missed the Tasbih in first Sajdah then do not make it up in Jalsa. Instead recite missed tasbih in the second Sajdah. If Tasbih has been missed in last sajdah of second or fourth Rakah then you can recite the missed ones before Attahiyat in Qaidah.

5) If you miss a wajib in Salah and have to do Sajdah Sahu. You dont have to recite Tasbih in Sajdah sahu, since the 300 count has been estalished. But if you had missed Tasbih in any of the postures and remember it now. Then you may recite the missed Tasbih in Sajdah Sahaw now.

The ruling of Salat al Tasbeeh.

There is a difference of opinion by the Ulamaa' on the ruling of salat altasabeeh .Some considered it authentic and did'nt.

Ibn al Mubarak is from the famous Tabieen who performed this Prayer amongst others.
The Book: the three abandoned Prayers by Sh Adnaan Ali Aroor argues for its Authenticity.
''Amongst those who declared it saheeh or hasan are: Ahmed Ibn Hanbal, Abo Dawood, Al Haakim, Abo Moosa Al Madanee, Al Khateeb Al Baghdaadi, Ibn as Salaah, Al Baghawee, al Mundhiri, an Nawawee in Tadheeb al Asmaa wal Lughaat and al Adkhaar, ibn al Hajr Asqalaani, as Suyotee and lastly, the Muhaddith of our time Shaykh al Albani- may Allah grant them all forgiveness'' (the three abandoned prayers, p 136)

Al-Haafidth ibn Hajar said,
'And in the narration of At-Tabrani: even if your sins were as the foam of the sea, or as much as the sand, Allah would forgive you...'

Abu Bakr b. Abi Dawood said that he heard his father say, 'There is nothing in the Tasbeeh prayer more authentic than this hadeeth.'

Imam Muslim said, 'There is no hadeeth with a better chain of narrators in this matter other than this...' (i.e. Ibn Abbas narration).

This narration was narrated by Ibn Majah, at-Tirmidthi, Ad'daar-Qutni, and al-Baihaqi.

Al-Baihaqi said, that Abdullah b. al-Mubarak used to pray the Tasbeeh prayer, this prayer was handed (to us) by the pious predecessors, and from this, the above hadeeth gains extra strength...!

At-Tirmidthi said, 'this is a ghareeb hadeeth from the narration of Abi Rafi' he then said, 'Ibn al-Mubarak used to practice it, and other people of knowledge used to practice it also, and they mentioned its merits.'

Of those who corrected (authenticated) the above hadeeth:-

1. Abu Dawood,

2. Ibn Mundah,

3. Al-Aajari,

4. As-Sum'aani,

5. al-Madini,

6. al-Mundthiri,

7. Abul-Hasan al-Mundthiri,

8. Ibn As-Salaah,

9. Ad-Dailami,

10. Al-Haakim,

11. Al-A'laali,

12. Az-Zurkashi,

13. Al-Muhaamili,

14. Abul-Hasan al-Muqdasi,

15. al-Juwaini,

16. Al-Baghawi,

17. Ar-Ra'fiee',

18. Al-Haitami,

19. As-Su'youti,

20. Al-Luknawwi,

21. Ibn Aa'bideen,

22. Al-Albani and others...

There is a third hadeeth which too is authentic and is narrated by Ahmed, At-Tirmidthi (who stated this narration as Hasan), an-Nasa'i, ibn Khuzaimah, and Ibn Hibban in their Saheeh collections, and al-Haakim, said that is authentic according to the conditions set by Muslim.

This narration is on the authority of Anas b. Maalik, may Allah be pleased with him, that Umm Sulaim asked the Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, 'teach me a few words that I may say them in my prayer. He said, 'Say Allahu Akbar 10 times, Say Subhanallah ten times, Say Al-Humdulilah ten times, then pray as much as you want...' (in its meaning).

Imam Ash-Shafi'ee said, 'They didn't practice what was in the letter of Aal-Hazm until it was affirmed that it was an authentic letter from the Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention.'

Al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 'From this hadeeth we take two very important things, that we should accept the hadeeth once it is deemed authentic, even if nobody practiced it before you...'

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani (RA) states that sometimes a Muhaddith classifies a certain Hadith as weak, very weak or even as a fabrication based on one or two chains that were available to him, whereas there may be other chains through which that Hadith may be classified as Hasan (sound) or even Sahih (authentic). (Anukat vol.2 pg.848-850)

Ibn Hajar (RA) then mentions the Hadith of Salaat al-Tasbeeh as an example for this and he accepts it to be in fact either Sahih (authentic) or Hasan (sound) and not Dha'eef (weak)

Imaam Tirmidhi (RA) says that many Ulama, among them Imaam Abdullah ibn al-Mubaarak (RA), have accepted the virtue of Salaat al-Tasbeeh. (Tirmidhi vol.2 pg.348; Hadith 481)

Imaam Bayhaqi (RA) states that 'Salaat al-Tasbeeh was the practice of Abdullah ibn al-Mubaarak and may pious predecessors of various eras. And this in fact lends strength to its acceptability.' (Shu'ubul Imaam vol.1 pg.427; Ilmiyyah)

Allaamah Mundhiri (RA) mentions: Many Muhadditheen have accepted it's authority from among them are:

1) Imaam Abu-bakr al-Ajurriy,
2) Imaam Abu Muhammad al-Misriy (Teacher of Allaamah Mundhiri),
3) Abul-Hasan Maqdisi (Teacher of Allaamah Mundhiri),
4) Imaam Abu-Dawud (as quoted in his sahih and
5) Imaam Haakim.

This is in (Targheeb vol.1 pg.468)

Allaamah Suyuti (RA) has enumerated upto 20 great Muhadditheen who have accepted its authenticity. Besides those that are mentioned above, some of them are:

6) Abu-Sa'eed al-Sam'aaniy,
7) Khateeb al-Baghdaadiy,
8) Ibn-Mandah
9) Imaam Bayhaqi
10) Imaam al-Subkiy
11) Imaam al-Nawawiy
12) ibn al-Salah
13) Abu-Musa al-Madiniy
14) al-Alaaeiy
15) Imaam Siraaj-ud-Deen al-Bulqiniy
16) al-Zarkashiy

This is in (al-Laalil Masnoo'ah vol.2 pg.42-44)

The following list of Muhadditheen is of those who have written detailed articles on this matter:

1) Imaam al-Daraaniy,
2) Imaam Abu-Musa al-Madiniy,
3) Imaam ibn Mandah,
4) Ibn Naasirud-Deen ad-Dimishqiy, Allaamah al-Suyyooti.

In the books of Hanafi Fiqh support the view of its acceptance. (refer Shaami vol.2 pg.27; HM Saeed). And several Shaafi'ee Jurists have also endorsed it, namely Imaam al-Muhaamiliy, Imaam al-Juwaini, Imaam-ul-Haramayn, Imaam Ghazaaliy, Imaam Raafi'ee and others. (al-La-aaliy vol.2 pg.43; al-Azkaar of Imaam Nawawiy pg.242)

Khateeb Baghdaadiy (RA), who is Maaliki, states that there is no reason for it not being permissible. In fact, Imaam ibn Hajar (RA) has mentioned a quotation from Imaam Maaliki from which it could be deduced that it was acceptable in his Madhab. (refer Futuhaat al-Rabbaaniyyah vol.4 pg.321) Qaadhi Iyaad Maaliki (RA) has also accepted its virtue. (Ibid)

For me it is apparent that there can be no doubt regarding Salaat al-Tasbeeh being an act of virtue which has been established authentically. And is accepted by a large number of celebrated scholars of Hadith as well as the scholars of Fiqh (jurisprudence).

Imaams Taajud-Deen Subki (RA) and Badrud-Deen Zarkashi have stated that it is from the fundamentals of Deen and anyone who discards it despite knowing its virtue is not on the correct path. (Futuhaat vol.4 pg.321-322)

[PF:166255] Reciting Quran At Night

Bismillaah, wal-hamdulilaah, was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa rasoolillaah,
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatuallahi wa barakatuhu

 http://iloveramadaan.blogspot.com/2010/09/reciting-quran-whilst-in-qiyaam.html

Reciting Qur'an whilst in Qiyaam (Standing in prayer)

Abd-Allah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'Aas (may Allah be pleased with them both), narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

Whoever recites ten aayaat (verses) in qiyaam will not be recorded as one of the forgetful. Whoever recites a hundred aayaat (verses) in qiyaam will be recorded as one of the devout, and whoever prays a thousand aayaat (verses) in qiyaam will be recorded as one of the muqantareen (those who pile up good deeds)." (Reported by Abu Dawood and Ibn Hibbaan. It is a hasan report. Saheeh al-Targheeb, 635).

Reading Qur'aan at night saves one from negligence, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever reads ten verses at night will not be recorded as one of the negligent." Narrated by al-Haakim, who said it is saheeh according to the conditions of Muslim. Al-Albaani said in Saheeh al-Targheeb wa'l-Tarheeb (640): It is saheeh because of corroborating reports.

Hence Ibn Khuzaymah narrated that hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) in a chapter called "The virtue of reciting one hundred verses in the night prayer, because the one who recites one hundred verses in the night prayer will not be recorded as being among the heedless." It was also narrated by Muhammad ibn Nasr al-Marwazi in his book Qiyaam al-Layl (164) in the chapters that speak of reciting in the night prayer.
And this virtue may also be attained by the one who recites this number of verses at night in general, whether that is during prayer or otherwise, before going to sleep or after waking up, if he wakes during the night. This general meaning was understood by many of the scholars when they narrated the hadeeth in their collections of hadeeth. Al-Daarimi (may Allaah have mercy on him) included it in a chapter called "The virtue of one who recites ten verses" (2/554).
Al-Haakim included it in his Mustadrak (1/738) in a chapter called "Reports concerning the virtue of the Qur'aan in general."
Al-Mundhiri included it in al-Targheeb wa'l-Tarheeb (2/76) in a chapter called "Encouragement to recite Qur'aan in prayer and at other times, and the virtue of learning it and teaching it."
He mentioned it a second time in a chapter entitled "Encouragement to recite adhkaar to be said by night and by day, not just in the morning and in the evening" (2/116).
Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Adhkaar (1/255):
Reciting Qur'aan is the most important of adhkaar, which should be done regularly. No day or night should be without it and it may be attained by reciting a few verses.
Then he mentioned a number of ahaadeeth including the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah that we have quoted above. End quote.
It is hoped that the one who recites ten verses at night will not be recorded among the heedless, whether he recites them during his night prayer or otherwise, for the bounty of Allaah is great indeed.
In Saheeh Muslim (789) it is narrated from Ibn 'Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "If the companion of the Qur'aan persists in reciting it by night and by day, he will remember it, but if he does not do that he will forget it."
Allaah has described the pious as follows (interpretation of the meaning):
"They used to sleep but little by night [invoking their Lord (Allaah) and praying, with fear and hope].
18. And in the hours before dawn, they were (found) asking (Allaah) for forgiveness"
[al-Dhaariyaat 51:17, 18]
Imam Ahmad (16510) narrated that Tameem al-Daari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever recites one hundred verses in one night will have recorded for him (as if he) spent the night in worship."
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Saheehah (644)
Note 1 :Reciting Surah Yasin which has 83 ayat & surah Mulk which  has 30 ayat is more than 100 ayat.
Note 2: Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said: From Soorat Tabaarak [al-Mulk] to the end of the Qur'aan is one thousand verses.
Whoever prays qiyaam reciting from Soorat Tabaarak to the end of Qur'aan has prayed qiyaam with one thousand verses.

Reciting from Mushaf in Salah

Ibn Abi Mulaykah has been cited as evidence for the validity of reciting from the mushaf in prayer,
أن عائشة كان يؤمها غلامها ذكوان في المصحف
"'Aishah used to be led in prayer by her slave Dhakwan whilst reading from the mushaf"
This was recorded by Imam Abu Dawud in Kitab al-Masahif.

Reciting Quran generally at night
It is proven in the saheeh Sunnah that the Qur'aan will intercede for those who read it at night, as Ahmad (6626) narrated from 'Abd-Allaah ibn 'Amr that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Fasting and the Qur'aan will intercede for a person on the Day of Resurrection. Fasting will say, 'O Lord, I deprived him of his food and his desires during the day, so let me intercede for him.' And the Qur'aan will say: 'I deprived him of his sleep at night so let me intercede for him.' Then they will intercede." Narrated by Ahmad; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami', no. 3882.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated that reading the Qur'aan at night is one of the blessings that the believer is to be envied for. He said: "There should be no envy except in two cases: a man to whom Allaah teaches the Qur'aan, so he recites it during the night and during the day, and his neighbour hears him and says, 'Would that I had been given what So and so has been given and I could do what he does, and a man to whom Allaah gives wealth so he spends it all for the sake of the truth, and a man says, 'Would that I had been given what So and so has been given and I could do what he does.'" Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4738.

Night Prayer in The Quran

Allah the Most Exalted said:
"They arise from [their] beds"[Noble Quran 32:16]

Mujahid and Al-Hasan said: "It means night prayer".

Ibn Kathir explained the verse: "The meaning is night prayer, leaving sleep and rest upon a soft and flat furnishing.

Abdul-Haq al Ashbeeli said: "Their sides find no rest upon a bed. So they are not settled on it because of the fear of the punishment, and hoping for reward."

Allah the Exalted mentioned about the people who make tahajjud:
They used to sleep but little of the night, And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness "[Noble Quran 51:17-18]

Al-Hasan said: "They burdened themselves with the night. They extended the salah until the early dawn, then they sat making du'a and seeking forgiveness."

Allah said:
"Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding."[Noble Quran 39:9]

Night Prayer in The Sunnah

My dear Muslim brother/sister: The Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged making night prayer and arousing interest in it.

"It is upon you to perform night prayer, because it was the practice of the righteous people before you. It is a means of obtaining closeness to Allah the Exalted, it erases sins, it prevents wrongdoings, and it drives away sicknesses from the body."
[Narrated by Ahmad, Al-Tirmidhi, and graded sahih by Al-Albani]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There is a room in Jannah where the exterior is seen from the interior, and the interior is seen from the exterior. "Someone said: "Who is it for, Messenger of Allah?"He said: "It is for the one whose speech is pleasant, he feeds others, and he spends the night standing while the people are asleep "
[Narrated by Al-Tabarani, Al-Hakim, and graded sahih by Al-Albani]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Jibril came to me and said: 'Oh Muhammad: Live as you wish for you will die. Love whom you will for you will be separated. Do as you will for you will be recompensed for it. Know that the most honored of the believer is his standing at night, and his prestige is in not needing anything from the people "
[Narrated by Al-Hakim and Al-Baihaqi. It has been graded hasan by Al-Mundhiri and Albani]

Someone told the Prophet (peace be upon him) about a man who slept the night until morning time. He said "That is a man in whose ear the Shaytan urinated! "
[Agreed upon]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The best prayer after the obligatory ones is night prayer"[Narrated by Muslim]

Night Prayer of The Prophet

Allah the Most Exalted ordered His Prophet to perform night prayer in the following:
"O you who wraps himself [in clothing], Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - Half of it - or subtract from it a little. Or add to it, and recite the Quran with measured recitation."[Noble Quran 73:1-4]

And He said:
"And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station."[Noble Quran 17:79]

A'ishah said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) would stand at night until his feet became cracked. I said to him: Why do you do this oh Messenger of Allah, while all of your sins past and future have been forgiven? He said: Shouldn't I be a thankful slave? "[Agreed upon]

This proves that thankfulness is not only by the tongue. It is only done by the heart, the tongue, and the limbs. The Prophet (peace be upon him) established the duties of worship in the most complete manner, and in the most perfect form. He did all of this despite the fact that he had to spread the Islamic Aqidah, teach the Muslims, exert himself in the path of Allah, and fulfill the duties of his family and children.

He was as Ibn Rawaha said:

Among us is the Messenger of Allah reciting His book
When the courtesy is separated from the morning, glowing.

He showed us guidance after blindness, so our hearts
Are full of certainty that what he said is reality.

He spends the night separated from his bed
When the beds are heavy with the idol-worshippers.

Hudhaifa said: "I prayed with the Prophet (peace be upon him) one night. He started with Al-Baqarah, so I thought that he will make ruku after that. Then he started Al-Nisa' and recited it. Then he started Aal-Imran and recited it. He would recite slowly; when he came to an ayah with Tasbih, he would make Tasbih. When he came to a request, he would request. When he came to a seeking of refuge, he would seek refuge.. "[Narrated by Muslim]

Ibn Mas'ud said: "I prayed one night with the Prophet. He continued standing until I thought of a bad idea. Someone said: What did you think of doing? He said: I thought to sit down and leave him! "[Agreed upon]

Ibn Hajar said: "In this hadith is proof that the Prophet (peace be upon him) chose to prolong the night prayer. Ibn Mas'ud was strong-willed in preserving his emulation of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He did not think of sitting down until the prayer was much longer than he was used to."

Night Prayer And The Early Muslims

Imam Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: "I did not find any worship more powerful than salah in the middle of the night".

Abu 'Uthman Al-Hindi said: "I was the guest of Abu Huraira for seven [days]. He, his wife, and his servant would divide the night into three parts, praying one part and staying awake for another part".

When Shaddad ibn Aws would go to bed, he would be like a grain in a frying pan. Then he would say: "Oh Allah, hell-fire does not stop me from sleeping". Then he would stand to pray.

Tawus would strongly awaken his family, then he would make wudhu and face the qibla until morning. He would say "The sleep of the worshippers has caused them to completely stop remembering the hell-fire!"

Zum'a al-Abid would pray long hours of the night. When dawn would approach, he would raise his voice and announce: "Oh riders of the beds, are you going to sleep and waste away the entire night? Will you not get up and leave the bed!" He would then hear crying from one place, a person making du'a from another place, and someone making wudu from another place. When fajr time would come, he would say: "At the morning time, the people are thankful for the announcement"

The levels of the early Muslims with regards to Night Prayer

Imam Ibn-ul-Jawzi said: You should know that the early Muslims were at one of seven levels with regards to night prayer:

Level one: These would stay up the entire night. Some of them would pray Fajr with the same wudu as 'Isha'.

Level two: These would pray half of the night.

Level three: These would pray one-third of the night. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: " The most beloved salah to Allah The Exalted is the salah of Dawud. He would sleep half of the night, pray one-third, and sleep one-sixth".[Agreed upon]

Level four: These would pray one-sixth of the night or one-fifth.

Level five: These would not specify an amount of the night. He would only pray until he became sleepy, and would then sleep. When he woke up, he would pray.

Level six: These would pray two or four rak'ah.

Level seven: These would stay awake between the two Isha times [the early time for Isha and the later, recommended time], and they would sweeten their mornings [with du'a]. This way, they would join the night and morning. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed in every night is a time wherein if the worshipper asks Allah for something good, He will give it. And this is in every night."[Narrated by Muslim]

Factors That Make Night Prayer Easy

Imam Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali mentioned some external and internal factors that make Night Prayer easy.

External factors are four:

That the individual should not eat or drink too much. Then sleep will overpower him, and waking up will be difficult.

The person should not tire himself in the daytime with things of no benefit.

He should not avoid the mid-day nap because it helps with regards to waking up.

He should not make sins in the daytime because that will prevent him from night prayer.

Internal factors are four:

The heart should be free from these: malice towards the Muslims, bid'as, and excessive worldly interests.

The heart should have a lot of fear and not too much hope.

He should know the benefits of night prayer.

The best motivation: Love of Allah, and having strong Eman that in his prayer every letter that he utters is freeing him from the punishment of his Lord.

Al-Hafidh ibn Rajab said: "You should know that in Ramadan the believer combines two actions by which he struggles against himself: during the day-time by fasting, and during the night-time by night prayer. Whoever combines these two forms of struggle receives his reward without any account."

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet, his family, companions, scholars, and all the Ummah.

Among the soorahs and verses which we are recommended to recite are the following:
1 – Aayat al-Kursiy (al-Baqarah 2:255)
It says in a mu'allaq report narrated in Saheeh al-Bukhaari (2311) that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) appointed me to guard the zakaah of Ramadaan, then someone came and started rummaging in the foodstuff … and at the end of the hadeeth he said: "When you go to your bed, recite Aayat al-Kursiy, for there will remain with you a guardian from Allaah, and no devil will approach you, until morning comes." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "He told you the truth although he is a liar. That was a devil."
2 – The last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah
It was narrated from Abu Mas'ood al-Ansaari (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him." Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5009) and Muslim (2714). Ibn al-Qayyim said in al-Waabil al-Sayyib (132): They will suffice him against any evil that may harm him.
It was narrated that 'Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
"I did not think that any sane person could sleep without reciting the last three verses of Soorat al-Baqarah."
In al-Adhkaar (220), al-Nawawi attributed it to the report of Abu Bakr ibn Abi Dawood, then he said: It is saheeh according to the conditions of al-Bukhaari and Muslim.
3, 4 – Soorat al-Isra' and Soorat al-Zumar
It was narrated that 'Aa'ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would not go to sleep until he had recited Bani Israa'eel (Soorat al-Isra') and al-Zumar.
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (3402) who said: it is a hasan hadeeth. It was also classed as hasan by al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar in Nataa'ij al-Afkaar (3/65), and it was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.
5 – Soorat al-Kaafiroon
It was narrated that Nawfal al-Ashja'i (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: "Recite Qul yaa ayyuha'l-kaafiroon then go to sleep at the end of it, for it is a disavowal of shirk."
Narrated by Abu Dawood (5055) and al-Tirmidhi (3400); classed as hasan by Ibn Hajar in Nataa'ij al-Afkaar (3/6); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
6, 7, 8 – al-Ikhlaas and al-Mi'wadhatayn [i.e., the last three soorahs of the Qur'aan]
It was narrated from 'Aa'ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went to bed every night, he would hold his hands together and blow into them, and recite into them Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad, Qul a'oodhu bi rabb il-falaq and Qul a'oodhu bi rabb il-naas. Then he would wipe them over whatever he could of his body, starting with his head and face and the front of his body, and he would do that three times. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5017).
It was narrated that Ibraaheem al-Nakha'i said:
They regarded it as mustahabb to recite these soorahs every night three times: Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad and al-Mi'wadhatayn. Al-Nawawi said in al-Adhkaar (221): its isnaad is saheeh according to the conditions of Muslim.
Fourthly:
Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Adhkaar (221):
It is better for a person to do all that has been narrated of this matter, but if he cannot do that he should do whatever he is able to do. End quote.
It is not essential to read from the Mus-haf. It is sufficient for the Muslim to recite whatever he can from memory of the passages mentioned above, and Allaah will decree for him what He has promised.
And Allaah knows best.

[PF:166253] The meaning of sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad [sallalahualaihiwasallam]

Bismillaah, wal-hamdulilaah, was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa rasoolillaah,
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatuallahi wa barakatuhu

The meaning of sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad [sallalahualaihiwasallam]

"Allaahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala Aali Muhammad kama salayta 'ala aali Ibraaheem, wa baarik 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aali Muhammad kama baarakta 'ala aali Ibraaheem innaka hameedun majeed (O Allaah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent prayers upon the family of Ibraaheem, and send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibraaheem, You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory)."

"Allaahumma" means, O Allaah.

"Salli 'ala Muhammad (send prayers upon Muhammad)." The prayers of Allaah upon Muhammad means His praising him before the higher assembly, i.e., the angels who are close to Him.

"Wa 'ala aali Muhammad (and upon the family of Muhammad)" means and send blessings upon the family of Muhammad. It was said that the family of Muhammad are his followers who follow his religion; or it was said that the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) are his relatives who believed. The first view is the one which is correct because the word "aal" (translated here as "family") means followers.

"Kama salayta 'ala Ibraaheem (as You sent prayers upon the family of Ibraheem)." Some of the scholars said that what this means is: as You previously bestowed Your bounty upon the family of Ibraaheem, then bestow Your bounty upon Muhammad and His family.

"Baarik 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aali Muhammad (Send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad)" means send down blessings. Blessings means a lot of good things on a continuous and ongoing basis.

"Kama baarakta 'ala aali Ibraaheem (as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibraaheem)" i.e., O Lord, You bestowed Your favour upon the family of Ibraaheem and blessed them, so send blessings upon the family of Muhammad.

"Innaka hameedun majeed (You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory). Hameed means praising and praiseworthy, praising His slaves and close friends who obey His commands, and praiseworthy, to be praised for His attributes of perfection and great blessings.

Majeed means Owner of Majesty. Majesty means greatness and perfect power.
