CAIR-FL Applauds Volusia School Board and Allies for Rejecting Hate

- Good News Alert -
Fla. School Board Resists Censorship of Textbook on Islam

(TAMPA, FL, 11/19/13) - CAIR-FL applauds the Volusia County school board, and many allies for resisting calls by Islamophobes to drop a textbook offering basic historical information about Islam and the Muslim civilization.

Yesterday, representatives of CAIR's Florida chapter joined with local students, members of the Democratic Party, moderate Republicans, academics and interfaith allies at a school board meeting near Deltona, Fla., to counter an organized protest against the textbook.

Volusia County High School Students Defend Their Textbook

Local students presented the board with a petition signed by some 500+ classmates rejecting the call for censorship. Most of those who spoke at the school board meeting spoke for religious tolerance and against censoring textbooks. Protesters meanwhile made outlandish statements such as claiming the US President was not born in the US.

"We welcome the tremendous support from the local community and applaud the determination of school board members to resist bullying by anti-Muslim bigots," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

"It was heartening to see the tremendous support from Floridians of all faiths and backgrounds who stood for mutual understanding and against censorship," said CAIR-Florida's Tampa Executive Director Hassan Shibly, who spoke at yesterday's school board meeting.

Shibly noted that the school board has issued a fact sheet refuting the false claims of the anti-Islam protesters, while one Republican school board member has ridiculed the anti-Islam hysteria promoted by the book's opponents.

CAIR's recently-released report, "Legislating Fear: Islamophobia and its Impact in the United States," exposes the anti-Islam groups and individuals behind such censorship efforts.

[karachi-Friends] Daily Qur'an & Hadith 20 Nov 2013 (15 Muharam 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[26].Surah Ash-Shuara [The Poets]

Ayat 200. Thus have We caused it (the denial of the Qur'ân) to enter the hearts of the Mûjrimûn (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.).

Ayat 201. They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment;

Ayat 202. It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not;

Ayat 203. Then they will say: "Can we be respited?"

Ayat 204. Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on?

Tafseer of Ayat 200 to 204. Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the Sinners. "Thus" I think means through the medium of the Arabic language and the Arab people. The Qur'an penetrated through their language and their hearts. If the hardhearted among them did not believe, they will see when the Penalty comes, how grievous a mistake they made. For the Penalty must come; even when they least expected it. They will be caught saying or thinking, "There is plenty of time; we can get another respite," when already it will have become too late for them to turn over a new leaf. They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?" Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on? While some sinners out of negligence postpone the day of repentance till it is too late, others more bold actually ask out of bravado that Allah's Punishment should be brought down on them at once, as they do not believe in Allah or His Punishment! The answer to them is: It will come soon enough-too soon, they will think, when it comes!

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn Umer (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) took hold of my shoulders and said, "Be in the world like a stranger or a wayfarer". Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) used to say: "When you survive till the evening, do not expect to live until the morning; and when you survive until the morning, do not expect to live until the evening; (do good deeds) when you are in good health before you fall sick, and (do good deeds) as long as you are alive before death strikes".

[Al-Bukhari Book 08, Chapter 76, Hadith # 425].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Ash-Shuara Ayat 202."It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not" A person who will consider this world as a temporary stage, will certainly not like that his clothes be entangled in thorny bushes of this world. The greatest fault of man is that he does not understand this status of the world. In spite of the fact that he is not sure of a moment's life here, he occupies himself in amassing goods and riches which would last for a hundred years.
