[PF:169797] Fwd: Do You Possess These Seven Habits ?

In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful, the All-Compassionate

"May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon You"

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Do You Possess These Seven Habits ?

This talk was based on the following hadith from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):
There are seven whom Allah will shade in His Shade on the Day when there is no shade except His Shade:
1: a just ruler;
2: a youth who grew up in the worship of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic;
3: a man whose heart is attached to the mosques;
4: two men who love each other for Allah's sake, meeting for that and parting upon that;
5: a man who is called by a woman of beauty and position [for illegal intercourse], but be says: I fear Allah,
6: a man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives in charity;
7: and a man who remembered Allah in private and so his eyes shed tears.
Related by Bukhari

1. They Remember Their Sins

Some people fall into the habit of judging others by their sins while forgetting their own. They may not even think the sins they have committed are all that bad. This is a sign of weak Muslim.
A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which he is afraid may fall on him, whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this.
Related in Bukhari
Of course, if you see someone doing wrong, you should advise him or her to change their behavior. But dont become arrogant or prideful because you are not committing that sin. In fact, you should reflect on the sins you have committed and turn to Allah for repentance.
Who knows? Perhaps that person is doing something else that Allah loves. And perhaps you are doing something else that Allah hates.

By constantly remembering and being mindful of the sins you commit, you will be more inclined to repent, change your behavior, and do good deeds to make up for them, Inshallah.

2. They Mind Their Business

People like to think that only women engage in gossip. I can tell you from experience, that is not true. Muslim men can be some of the worst gossipers and backbiters around. And this is unfortunate given how many warnings there are of such horrible behavior.

How do people fall into gossiping and backbiting? By not minding their own business. These people hear a rumor or a tale, and before the next prayer comes in, they have spread it to a dozen other people. And then those people turn around and do the same thing.
If only we would remember what Allah says in His book:
And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer.
(And) scorner going about with malicious gossip.
A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful.
Chapter 68 verses 10-12
These are some pretty strong words coming from our Lord condemning this behavior. So, rather than mind other folks business, and spread rumors, tales and gossip, how about we just tend to our own affairs?

Are they not complicated enough to keep us busy for a lifetime ?

3. They Say What is Good

This goes hand in hand with the previous habit. Whereas Habit #2 was just to mind your own business and not say evil, Habit #3 is encouragement to say good.
Anyone who believes in Allah and the last day, should speak good or keep quiet.
Related in Bukhari
There you have it. Advice directly from the Prophet (peace be upon him) telling us to say something good or shut up. I dont mean to put it so bluntly but thats the gist of it.
This advice doesnt just mean speak good of people. It means to speak good about everything. Here are some examples:
  • Rather than complain, be grateful and praise Allah for what you have.
  • Rather than be boastful, once again, be grateful and praise Allah for what He has given you.
  • Rather than criticize, advise and compliment on the good someone does.
Have you ever noticed how a negative person, who always has negative things to say, also seems to always bring a negative feeling with them? It's like negativity is contagious. They are always complaining, nagging, and criticizing.

Don't be like that person.

When you think about it, saying something good is really not all that difficult. When you're about to say something bad or negative, try to think of something good (or at least neutral) to say.
And if you cant, just shut up.

4. They Keep Good Company

If you want to fulfill the previous three habits, you should be around people who want the same. You'll find yourself very ineffective if you are always surrounded by people who think they are better than others, are always minding other people's business, and cannot say good.

So if you are serious about becoming an effective Muslim, you should take a close look at the people you spend time with. If you can convince them to change their ways, that is best. But if not, maybe it's time to find new friends.

A good friend and a bad friend are like a perfume-seller and a blacksmith: The perfume-seller might give you some perfume as a gift, or you might buy some from him, or at least you might smell its fragrance. As for the blacksmith, he might singe your clothes, and at the very least you will breathe in the fumes of the furnace.
Related in Bukhari
Once again, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is giving it to us in a clear and beautiful manner. If you hang around good people, that goodness will rub off on you. If you hang around negative people, that same negativity will rub off on you, and may eventually lead you astray.

So if you don't want to get burnt, find some good friends.

5. They Do Not Procrastinate (To postpone or delay needlessly).

  • How many people owe days of fasting from the last Ramadan but put them off for months? Some people have to rush to get these days in just weeks or even days before the next Ramadan begins.
  • How many people have money and the health to make Hajj but wait years and years to make it? Some people wait until they reach old age and have to to visit the Kaaba with multiple illnesses and difficulties.
  • How many people routinely procrastinate in making their daily prayers ? The best of these procrastinators rush to get their prayer in before time is out. The worst completely miss the prayers due solely to procrastination.
Procrastinating in your daily duties is bad enough.
Please dont procrastinate with the orders of Allah.

6. They Put Their Trust in Allah

And (Allah) will provide for him from where he does not expect. And puts their trust in Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a (decreed) measure.
Chapter 65 verse 3
Well, there you got it; straight from The Creator. If you put your trust in Allah, then He is all you need.

We often fall into the trap of putting our trust in the creation. We ask help from people who cannot help us. We complain to people who have no authority. Instead, we should seek help and complain to Allah Almighty.

Of course, if you do need assistance and you know of someone who has the ability to help, it is okay to ask them for help. But understand that whatever help they can provide ultimately comes from Allah. After all, even that person may let you down. But if you put your trust in Allah, He will never let you down.

7. They Remain Mindful of Allah

This is the most important habit of them all.
  • If you do not remember Allah, you will not think of your own sins and seek repentance for them.
  • If you do not remember Allah, you will not try to avoid His punishment by minding your own business without falling into backbiting and slander.
  • If you do not remember Allah, you will not try to seek His favor by saying what is good.
  • If you do not remember Allah, you will not seek out good company who are also focused on remembering Allah.
  • If you do not remember Allah, you will never be able to put your trust in Him and will always look for help from those who can do you no good.
These are not the only things we can do to become effective Muslims. I am sure you can think of many more habits that will bring you closer to Allah and improve your daily life. But these seven habits of highly effective Muslims is a great place to start.

May Allah make it easy for you and me to implement these habits every day of our lives.

Ameen.

[PF:169796] Sighting of the Crescent

Hadrat Sayyiduna Ibn-e-'Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam has said,

لا تصوموا حتى تروا الهلال ، ولا تفطروا حتى تروه ، فإن غم عليكم فاقدروا له
"Do not commence fasting (Ramadan) till you see the new moon, and do not cease fasting (perform Eid) till you see it. But if the weather is cloudy, or there is a smog in the sky (which prevents sighting of the moon), then complete 30 days of the month." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 256]

In another narration, the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam said,

الشهر تسع وعشرون ليلة ، فلا تصوموا حتى تروه ، فإن غم عليكم فأكملوا العدة ثلاثين
"The month sometimes is of twenty-nine days, but do not fast till you see the moon. But if the weather is cloudy or there is a smog, then complete thirty days of the month." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 256]

Hadrat Shaykh 'Abd al-Haq Muhaddith-e-Dehwli Alaihir raHmah states:

According to the Islamic Law (Shari'ah), what the astrologers say or inform is not accepted and is unreliable. Neither the Messenger of Allah, his companions, their followers, nor the pious predecessors followed their utterances, and nor did they act upon them. [Ashi'ah al-Lam'at]

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam has said,

صوموا لرؤيته وأفطروا لرؤيته فإن غم عليكم فأكملوا العدة شعبان ثلاثين
"Commence the fast when you see it (the moon) and cease fasting (perform Eid) when you see it. But if the weather is cloudy, complete thirty days of Sha'ban." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 256]

Hadrat Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that:

A desert Arab came to the Holy Prophet and said, "I have seen the new moon i.e. the new moon of Ramadan." He asked, "do you testify that there is no god but Allah?" he said: yes. He then asked: do you testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes." So, the Messenger of Allah said, "O Bilal, announce to the people that they must fast tomorrow." [Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 1, Page 320 and Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Page 148]

Hadrat Shaykh 'Abd al-Haq Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi Alaihir raHmah states:

It has been proven from the Hadith that a person who is Mastur-ul-Haal i.e. whose being a fasiq is not apparent, then his report or testimony is accepted for the beginning of the month of Ramadan. Stating the words of "Shahadah" (bearing witness) is not a condition. [Ashi'ah al-Lam'at]

..:: Important Notes on Sighting of the Moon ::..

1. There are a few ways of proving the sighting the moon:

A. News of sighting the moon – on the night of the 29th of Sha'ban when the sky is not clear (cloudy), then the news of sighting the moon given by a Muslim male or female, equitable or Mastur-ul-Haal (a person who's inward state is concealed – whose fisq is not apparent) shall prove the beginning of Ramadan. In the case when the sky is clear, it is sufficient for a person who fulfills the above mentioned criterions to see the moon outside the place where inhabitants are, such as in an open field, or on a high place. Otherwise, there should be such a great number of people, who witness the sighting of the moon with their naked eye. For the rest of the 11 months, in the case of the sky not being clear, then there should be two (2) witnesses who are equitable ('Aadil). In the case of the sky being clear, there should be such a great number of people giving witness (bearing testimony for their sighting of the moon) whose unanimity on speaking falsehood is merely impossible rationally. [Radd al-Muhtar – Vol. 2, Page 94-95, and in al-Bahr al-Ra'iq – Vol. 2, Page 269]

B. Shahadat 'ala al-Shahadah (witness upon witness) - this is when the witnesses have not seen the moon themselves. However, those who did see the moon bore witness in front of them of their sighting, and made them witnesses upon this. So, in this way the sighting of the moon is proven, only on the condition that the people who saw the moon are unable and incapable to be present in order to give their witness directly [to the Qadhi or the 'Alim if there is no Qadhi]. The way to give witness in this situation is that each person from the people who saw the moon with their naked eyes, makes 2 persons their witness and ask them to become their witness that, "I saw the moon on the night of such and such a day, and such and such a month of such and such a year." Then each person from the secondary witnesses testify that, "Such and such a person, the son of such and such a person has made me a witness on their sighting of the moon on the night of such and such day, of such and such a month of such and such a year, and they have asked me to become their witness on this sighting." [Radd al-Muhtar, Vol. 4, Page 409 and also in Fatawa al-Hindiyyah ('Alamgiri), Vol. 3, Page 410]

C. Shahadah 'ala al-Qada' (giving witness in front of an Islamic Judge) - this means that in another city there came witnesses in front of an Islamic Judge or a Mufti who bore witness of their sighting of the moon, and the Judge or the Mufti has passed a verdict that the moon has been seen, and in the time of giving the witness there were 2 reliable, trustworthy, righteous men present in the Dar-ul-Qada (the Islamic Court) who saw and heard the witnesses giving their witness. These 2 witnesses came to a different city or town and bore witness that, "In such and such a city in front of us and in the presence of the Judge (or the Mufti) there came witnesses who testified that they saw the moon on the night of such and such a day and the Mufti has declared sighting of the moon on such and such a day", then this shall also be proof of sighting of the moon. [Fatawa al-Imam al-Ghuzza, Page 6 and Fath al-Qadir, Vol. 2, Page 243]

D. Istifadah (well-circulated reports) – when there is such a Grand-Mufti in an Islamic city to whom the mass majority of people flock towards in order to gain Islamic rulings pertaining their everyday issues; and by whose fatwa the verdicts are given as regards to the beginning and the end of Ramadan and 'Eidayn; and in such a city the general public do not start or terminate fasting according to themselves, then if numerous groups of people come from that city to another and bear witness all at once that upon the sighting of the moon on such and such a day, the fasting of Ramadhan has commenced or that Eid was made, then this testimony shall also prove the sighting of the moon. However, if it is only rumours and no one knows who said it or on being asked how they knew the sighting of the moon, they say, "we heard" or "other people have said it", then there is absolutely no Istifadah upon such reports. Also, in a city where there is no Islamic mufti or there is but he is incapable of issuing a Fatwa or is reliable and trustworthy but the general public in that city decide for themselves when to start and end Ramadan and Eid, (as is quite common nowadays,) then the unanimity or even the tawatur (mass-transmitted reports) from this city in this news can in no way prove the sighting of the moon. [Radd al-Muhtar, Vol. 2, Page 97 and Fatawa-e-Radawiyyah, Vol. 4, Page 553]

E. Termination of the number of days in a month - when 30 days of a month have passed then the sighting of the moon for the next month is proven. However, if upon the witness of one person the starting of Ramadan was accepted, and by this calculation 30 days of Ramadan had passed, but because of the sky not being clear the moon could not be seen, then the termination of the number of days in the month does not suffice, but in fact another fast should be kept. [Radd al-Muhtar, Vol. 2, Page 97]

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/39341_420167695333_3499501_n.jpg

2. If the moon has been sighted according to the Shari'ah rules and conditions, then the sighting of people in the west is a certain proof of sighting of the moon for people living in the east. [Fatawa al-Imam al-Ghuzza Pg. 5]

3. A calendar or a timetable does in no way prove the sighting of the moon. [Radd al-Mohtar, Vol. 2, Page 94]

4. Media reports do not in any way prove the sighting of the moon. Most of the time newspaper reports or reports from TV or the radio are just guesses and no more than rumours here and there. And even if the news is correct, but because of the sighting of the moon not being proven by Shari'ah rules and regulations it cannot be accepted in anyway. [Radd al-Muhtar, Vol. 2, Page 97]

5. Letters also do not prove sighting of the moon, as one person's handwriting can be identical to another. Hence there is doubt and it does benefit any knowledge of full certainty. [al-Durr al-Mukhtar and also in al-Hidayah]

6. News given via a telephone (or mobile) telegram or any satellite link is more unreliable than a letter as in a letter the addressee recognises the signature, writing and the stamp of the writer. Also in a letter, there is even a slight indication that the handwriting is of the actual writer, which is not present in the news given by a telephone or another satellite link. Furthermore, when the witness is behind a veil then their witness is not reliable as one voice is identical to another, then how is it possible that the sighting of the moon be reliable or even accepted when this news has reached via telephone, telegram (or similar) technological equipment?! Plus the fact that in worldly matters and affairs, news received via the telephone is not accepted, nor is it reliable, then how can it be reliable in matters related to the religion; where one has to be extremely careful. [Fatawa-e-'Alamgiri, Vol. 3, Page 357]

7. Radio or Television: there are much more complexities and difficulties in receiving the news and accepting its reliability from a radio or a television than to receive it from a telegram or a telephone, as one can ask questions and receive answers via a telephone or a telegram whereas this is not the case on the radio or the television (when the news is given, discussions and debates are a different matter).

Conclusively, these new technological equipments can be used to spread news worldwide, but they cannot be accepted in the matters as related to giving Shahadah witness. This is why in the court the judge does not give a verdict until the witnesses do not present themselves in the court to give their witness account. Telephone calls or news received from the telegram or radio, television are totally unaccepted.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/39728_420167990333_5991523_n.jpg

The Messenger of Allah has stated: "But if the weather is cloudy, wait till thirty days of the previous month have passed."

But it is quite a saddening and disappointing fact to see people in these days (most of them being neglectful of their prayers and the obligatory fasts) rise in uproar on receiving the news on the radio or the telephone or the television about the sighting of the moon. May Almighty Allah give them the guidance to act upon the sayings of the Beloved Prophet.

8. In a country where there is no Islamic Ruler, and nor is there any Qadhi appointed for the task (of accepting or refusing the witnesses), then the Grand-Mufti of a city who has beliefs in conformity with Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah (Sunni) is the subordinate. Wherever, there is no mufti, then the witness (Shahadah) for the sighting of the moon shall be presented in front of the general public (of Muslims). [Fatawa-e-Radwiyyah – Vol. 4, Page 547]

It has been stated in "al-Hadiqah al-Nadiyyah Sharh Tariqah al-Muhammadiyyah" - by Imam al-'Allama 'Abd al-Ghani al-Nablusi al-Dimishqi - that:

When an era is without any Islamic Ruler who suffices the Muslims for their affairs which pertain to the religion, then all the Islamic affairs and rulings shall be referred to the scholars of Islam (the 'ulema), and in every aspect of their life, Muslims are obliged to consult these ulema. These ulema shall be considered the 'Islamic rulers' and the 'Islamic judges'. Then, if it is impossible for the unanimity of the Muslims to appoint one specific scholar, then the people of each and every district or town shall follow their 'Ulama. Then, if there are innumerable 'Ulama in one district, then amongst them the 'alim who has the most knowledge as regards the Islamic rulings, he shall be followed, if they are all equal (in knowledge) then a raffle should be taken (as to draw out the name of the 'Aalim who shall be appointed as the vice of the Qadhi in that district).

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/40852_420284370333_8236429_n.jpg

9. The testimony of a Fasiq-e-Mau'lin (an open transgressor) such as the one who neglects establishing prayer, or prays the salah but frequently neglects praying with the congregation (jama'ah), shaves or trims his beard less than a fist, is not be accepted. Likewise, the evidence of an infidel (non-muslim), bad madhhab (follower of a deviant), an insane or an immature shall not be accepted.

10. On sighting the moon, the supplications as mentioned in the Ahadith should be read.

11. It is makruh (disapproved) to point finger towards the moon even though it may be to indicate to others the location of the moon. [Bahar-e-Shari'at, Chapter 5, Page 685, al-Durr al-Mukhtar and also in Fatawa-e-'Alamgiri, Vol. 1, Page 184]

12. It is wajib (necessary) for the Muslims to follow the Islamic dates and years (which are proven by the sighting of the moon). It is not permissible to follow the dates on the calendar, whose dates have been fixed following non-Islamic rules and regulations (such as the Gregorian English calendar). [al-Tafsir al-Kabir, Vol. 4, Page 445]

[PF:169795] Life of Prophet : The Elephant Refuses To Move (part 4)

In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful, the All-Compassionate

"May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon You"

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Prohibition of Suspicion
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,
"Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales."[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary:
This Hadith has already been mentioned (No. 15). It warns us against suspicions about other Muslims as this involves telling lies about them, which is strictly forbidden. This is the reason why it is referred to as the worst of false tales. We also learn from this Hadith that the orders and punishments of Shari`ah are enforced on certainty, not on speculations and conjectures.

The Elephant Refuses To Move

Abrahah, who came from Abyssinia-a country in Africa-conquered Yemen and was made vice-regent there. Later, he noticed that at a certain time of the year large numbers of people would travel from all over Yemen and the rest of Arabia to Mecca. He asked the reason for this and was told that they were going on pilgrimage to the Kaabah.

Abrahah hated the idea of Mecca being more important than his own country, so he decided to build a church of colored marble, with doors of gold and ornaments of silver, and ordered the people to visit it instead of the Kaabah. But no one obeyed him.

Abrahah became angry and decided to destroy the Kaabah. So he prepared a large army led by an elephant and set off towards Mecca. When the Meccans heard that he was coming they became very frightened. Meccans had never seen huge elephants as elephants are not found in the desert region. Abrahah's army was huge and they could not fight it. But how could they let him destroy the Holy Kaabah ?

They went to ask the advice of their leader, Abd al-Muttalib.
When Abrahah arrived outside Mecca, Abd al-Muttalib went to meet him.
Abrahah said, 'What do you want ?'
Abrahah had taken Abd al-Muttalib's camels, which he had found grazing as he entered Mecca,
Abd al-Muttalib replied, 'I want my camels back.'
Abrahah was very surprised and said, 'I have come to destroy your Holy Kaabah, the holy place of your fathers, and you ask me about some camels ?'
Abd al-Muttalib replied calmly, 'The camels belong to me; the Kaabah belongs to Allah and He will protect it.'
Then he left Abrahah and went back to Quraysh and ordered them to leave Mecca and wait for their enemies in the mountains.

In the morning Abrahah prepared to enter the town. He put armor on his elephant and drew up his troops for battle. He intended to destroy the Kaabah and then return to Yemen. At that moment, however, the elephant knelt down and refused to get up, no matter how much the soldiers tried to get it to move by beating it.
But when the elephants were turned in the direction of Yemen it immediately got up and started off. In fact, it did the same in any other direction, but as soon as they pointed it towards Mecca it knelt down again.

Suddenly, flocks of birds appeared from over the sea. Each bird carried three stones as small as peas and they dropped them on Abrahah's army. The soldiers suddenly fell ill. Even Abrahah was hit by the stones and fled in fear with the rest of his army back to Yemen, where he later died. On seeing their enemy flee the Arabs came down from the mountains to the Kaabah and gave thanks to Allah.

After this, Quraysh gained great respect and became known as 'the people of Allah', and the year in which these events took place, 570A.D, was named the 'Year of the Elephant'. In that year Allah had saved the Kaabah and he would soon bring forth a Prophet from among Quraysh.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful: "Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant ? Did He not bring their stratagem to naught, And send against them swarms of flying creatures, Which pelted them with stones of baked clay, And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle) ? (Quran cv.1-5)

[PF:169793] 20 Rwakat of Tarawee Swalat

Noor-e-Mujassam, Habeebullah, Huzur Pak Swallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam Dictated, "For you, observing My Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Khulafa-i-Rwashideen and those of Ha'drwat Sahaba-e-Kiram RwadiAllahu Ta'ala Anhum is a must". This was practiced by Noor-e-Mujassam, Habeebullah, Huzur Pak Swallallahu Alaihi Sallam HimSelf, Ha'drwat Khulafa-i-Rwashideen 'Alaihimus Salaam, all Sahaba-e-Kiram RwadiAllahu Ta'ala Anhum, and later Imaam of all the four Madhaabs, and all Imaam, Mujtahid and Auwlia-e-Kiram Rwa'hmatullahi 'Alaihim that the Tarawee Swalat was offered in 20 Rwakat. Therefore Swalatut Tarawee shall have to be done in 20 Rwakat. Even a single Rwakat less would amount to be a breach of Wajib. Those who advocate of 8 or 12 Rwakat of Tarawee Swalat are not within the Ahle Sunnah wal Jam'ah. Rather they are derailed and part of the 72 reject firqah.
