فاز الكاتب والباحث المستعرب الهندي مجيب الرحمن، الأستاذ المشارك بمركز الدراسات العربية والأفريقية في جامعة جواهر لال نهرو، نيودلهي، بجائزة الرئيس «مهاريشي بادريان وياس سمان» وسلمته إياها رئيسة جمهورية الهند بارتيبها ديوي سينغ باتيل في احتفال أقيم في قصر الرئاسة. وتمنح الجائزة كل سنة لعالم شاب عمره بين 30 و40 سنة على إنجازاته البحثية والأكاديمية والتدريسية المتميزة في اللغة العربية وآدابها أو في أي من اللغات السنسكرتية والفارسية والبالية/ الباراكريتية. وتتضمن الجائزة منحة مالية مقدارها مئة ألف روبية وشهادة يمنحها رئيس جمهورية الهند للفائزين بالجائزة. ومجيب الرحمن يشغل منصب أستاذ مشارك في مركز الدراسات العربية والأفريقية في جامعة جواهر لال نهرو - نيودلهي، الهند. وله بحوث علمية منشورة في المجلات العربية، وله أيضاً خمسة كتب مؤلفة ومترجمة. ومن ترجماته إلى العربية «فكرة الهند» لمؤلفه سونيل خيلناني، و «مواطن الحداثة» لمؤلفه ديبيش شاكرابورتي، نشرتهما هيئة أبو ظبي للثقافة والتراث في أبو ظبي. وشارك في مؤتمرات دولية في أنحاء العالم. ونظم مجيب الرحمن مؤتمراً دولياً عن العلامة بديع الزمان سعيد النورسي حضره علماء كبار من تركيا وأوروبا وأميركا ولبنان والإمارت والهند وغيرها من الدول. وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن رئيس الجمهورية الهندية يمنح أيضاً كل سنة جائزة تكريم لثلاثة من علماء اللغة العربية وآدابها الذين تجاوزوا الستين من عمرهم تقديراً لخدماتهم البارزة في مجال اللغة العربية وآدابها، وتمنح الجائزة نفسها لعلماء اللغة الفارسية والسنسكريتية والبالية/ الباراكريتية.

هذه الجوائز تدل على اهتمام الهند باللغة والثقافة العربيتين في الهند. فالهند تزخر بالمدارس والكتاتيب العربية والإسلامية المنتشرة في ربوعها، ويزيد عددها على عشرين ألف مدرسة ما بين صغيرة وكبيرة يدرس فيها نحو 4 في المئة من المسلمين البالغ عددهم 150 مليوناً في أقل تقدير، إضافة إلى عدد من الجامعات والكليات الحكومية التي توجد فيها أقسام للغة العربية وآدابها ويتم فيها تدريس اللغة العربية من مرحلة البكالوريوس إلى درجة الدكتوراه.
