Category: Charity

Chapter: It is disliked for a man to buy what he gave in charity from the one to whom he gave it.

Hadeeth: It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭâb donated a horse (to be ridden in Jihâd) in the cause of Allâh, and he found it offered for sale. He wanted to buy it, and he asked the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم about that. He said: "Do not buy it; do not take back your charity."

Category: Business

Chapter: The invalidity of Al-Mulâmasah[1] and Al-Munâbadhah[2] transactions.

Hadeeth: It was narrated from Abû Hurairah that the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم forbade Mulâmasah and Munâbadhah transactions.

Category: Fasting

Chapter: Accepting the testimony of one man concerning the crescent moon of Ramaân.

Hadeeth: It was narrated that 'Abdur-Ramân bin Zaid bin Al-Khaṭṭâb addressed the people on the day concerning which there was doubt (as to whether the month had begun) and said: "I sat with the Companions of the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم and asked them, and they narrated that the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم said: 'Fast when you see it and perform the rites on that basis. If it is obscured[3], then complete thirty days, and if two witnesses testify then fast and stop fasting."

Chapter: Wearing a brass ring.

Hadeeth: It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم came out wearing a silver ring. He said: 'Whoever wants to make a ring like this, let him do so, but do not put the same inscription.'"

Sunan An-Nasâ'i, Volume 6, Book of Adornment 48, Chapter 50, No. 5210

 

Category: Virtues

Chapter: The adoption of a middle course (not to go to extremes), and the regularity of one's deeds.

Hadeeth: Narrated 'Āishah رضي الله عنها: The most beloved action to Allāh's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم was that whose doer did it continuously and regularly.

Category: Virtues

Chapter: The virtues of 'Umar رضي الله عنه.

Hadeeth: Abû Hurairah said: "I heard the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم say: 'While I was sleeping, I saw myself at a well by which there was a bucket. I drew as much (water) as Allâh willed from it, then the son of Abû Quâfah (i.e., Abû Bakr A-iddîq) took it and drew a bucket or two with some weakness, may Allâh forgive him. Then it changed into a large bucket, and the son of Al-Khaṭṭâb took it, and I have never seen any leader among the people draw water as vigorously as 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭâb; (he drew so much water) that the people drank their fill and then they stayed there for a while.'"

Category: Hell

Chapter: What has been related about the description of the drink of the inhabitants of the fire.

Hadeeth: Ibn 'Abbās narrated that the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه و سلم recited this Āyah: Have the Taqwā of Allāh as is His due, and do not die except as Muslims.[4] And the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه و سلم said: "If only a drop of Az-Zaqqūm were to drip into the adobe of the world, it would spoil the peoples' livelihood, so how about the person for whom it is his food?"

[1]    Al-Mulâmasah is a buy for prefixed price with closed eyes, or in darkness just by the first touch of hand.

[2]    Al-Munâbadhah is an agreement to barter one thing for another without seeing or checking either of them.

[3]    Meaning too cloudy so that you cannot see the new crescent.

[4]    Āl 'Imrān 3:102
