[karachi-Friends] Daily Qur'an & Hadith 18 Dec 2013 (14 Safar 1435)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[27].Surah Al-Naml [The Ants]

Ayat 35. "But verily! I am going to send him a present, and see with what (answer) the messengers return."

Ayat 36. So when (the messengers with the present) came to Sulaiman PBUH(Solomon), he said: "Will you help me in wealth? What Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you! Nay, you rejoice in your gift!"

Tafseer of Surah Al Naml (The Ants) Ayat 35 & 36. "But I am going to send him a present, and (wait) to see with what (answer) return (my) ambassadors." Now when (the embassy) came to Solomon, he said: "Will ye give me abundance in wealth? But that which Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you! Nay it is ye who rejoice in your gift! Poor Bilqis! she thought she had arranged with womanly tact to conciliate Solomon, and at the same time pacify her warlike subjects! But the effect of the embassy with presents was the very opposite. Solomon took it as an insult that she should send her presents instead of her submission to the true Religion! He flung back the presents at her, as much as to say, "Let these baubles delight your own hearts! Allah has blessed me with plenty of worldly goods, and something infinitely better, viz.: His Light and Guidance! Why do you say nothing about that? Will you only understand the argument of armies and violence?" Or perhaps his speech was only meant for the Sabaean crowd. For when she actually came, he treated her kindly, and she accepted the religion of Unity.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Urwah bin Amir (May Allah be pleased with him) said: When talking of omens was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) he said, "The best type of omen is the good omen.'' He added, "A Muslim should not refrain from anything because of an omen.'' He  [SAWW](PBUH) told them, "When any of you sees anything which he dislikes, he should say: `Allahuma la ya'ti bil-hasanati illa Anta, wa la yadfa`us-sayyi'ati illa Anta, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa Bika (O Allah ! You Alone bring good things; You Alone avert evil things, and there is no might or power but in You).'''

[Abu Dawud Hadith # 3919].

Lesson : 1. Tiyarah means taking omen. This applies to good as well as bad omens. Muslims are required to take good omen only. For this reason, when a Muslim resolves to do something good then a bad omen should not impede his way because he believes that it is Allah Alone who brings about everything. He should also pray to Allah for the removal of mischief.

2. When such things from which people usually take a bad omen create suspicions in one's mind, then it is Mustahabb (desirable) to recite the prayer mentioned in this Hadith. Thus, what we learn from this Hadith is that if a Muslim comes across something repulsive, he should pray to Allah for something auspicious. He should also pray to Allah for granting him the power and ability to abstain from evils.
