[karachi-Friends] Awakening Poetry of Allamah Iqbal

Two years ago, a book exhibition took place in Karachi.  I noticed English translation of  poetry of Jalaluddin Rumi printed with beautiful borders as we print glorious Quran.  I also learned that Rumi's poetry had become  so popular in Europe and USA  as to be sung by many popular  singers  including Madonna. Allamah Iqbal took the tradition of Rumi a step further by absorbing the meaning of Quran and elaborating it in his poetry so that listeners are convinced that it is the only correct course.  A maulvi or scholar just copies down the words of Divine message with reference to chapter and verse number, whereas a poet  concentrates only on the message and absorbs it in his brain and soul. Then he writes poetry so that reading a piece of poetry compels the reader to come in to action!  Since holy Quran is the single source of Divine guidance, everything from past to future is recorded in to it. Dr Iqbal had understood the system of meaning in Quran and warned his readers about the reality of this age:

غارت گرِ دین ہے  یہ زمانہ

ہے نہاد اس کی کافرانہ

(This age is destroyer of faith.   Inherently it  is in denial of  Reality).

Iqbal did not speak so much of coming of Imam Mehdi, as it was his age and Imam Mehdi was  not to come in the 20th century. Iqbal wanted the ummah to raise up and overthrow the yoke of subjugation, instead of waiting idly by for Imam Mehdi. He did in fact declare start of the last age by saying:

کھُل گئے یاجوج و ماجوج کے لشکر تمام

چشمِ مسلم  دیکھ لے تفسیر حرف ینسلون

His poem "Tuloue Islam "  paints a     heartening picture of  rise of Islam in the coming era:

Iqbal was  a seer who could see the future of world of Islam in the light of Qurane Karim.  He spent most of his time in reading Quran and explaining its meaning in his poetry.  He wrote poetry in Persian as well as Urdu so that the Central Asian Muslim nations, Iran and Afghanistan could get benefit of his knowledge.

British were  ruling India but that did not deter Dr Iqbal to declare in unambiguous terms:

ااور یہ اہل کلیسا کا نظام تعلیم

ایک سازش ہے فقط دین و مروت کے خلاف

Iqbal did not write to please one nation. He was poet of Ummah and he learned  Arabic, Persian and Urdu to spread his message, which is in fact message of holy Quran.  Today we can see the rule of satanic powers as Iqbal has foreseen in  "Iblis ki  majlise shoora" (Parliament of satan). This marvelous poem appears in his last Urdu collection "Armighane Hijaz". Unfortunately some writers criticize Iqbal without reading this wonderful poem.
