[PF:165273] Pakistan:Biggest Victim of Terrorism... Horror

Area 14/8

Two women, two children and a young man were killed in an explosion in a passenger van in Matni bazaar on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Abdul Kalam Khan said explosives were detonated when passengers had boarded the vehicle. He said the driver and another suspect had been taken into custody.

A bomb disposal official said about 5kg of explosives packed in a plastic cover with ball bearings had been planted in the van.
The blast damaged five other vehicles, a house and several shops.

Abdul Qadir, who runs a private school in the area, said the vehicle was going to Akakhel village in the semi-tribal Frontier Region of Peshawar.

The injured were taken by local people and workers of Edhi Foundation and Rescue 1122 to the Lady Reading and Khyber Teaching hospitals.

LRH Medical Superintendent Rahim Jan Afridi said two of the injured with severe burns had been taken to the KTH.

Sidra (70), wife of Azmat Khan; Hamana, wife of Ali Nawaz; Yar Afzal, son of Hikmat Khan; Nazia, daughter of Taj Dal Khan; and another child were killed.

An investigation officer of Matni police said the bomb attack appeared to be aimed against people of Kalakhel area who had recently set up an anti-Taliban 'peace committee' and were helping security personnel at checkpoints to identify suspected militants.

He said similar committees operating in different villages had lost many commanders in fight with militants. The worst affected group in Peshawar region is the Adezai Qaumi Lashkar who have lost 80 people since 2008.

The official said the Mangal Bagh-led militant group based in Khyber Agency had some supporters in the Matni and Adezai areas but police did not have enough evidence to prosecute them.

Agencies add: "We have reports that six people were killed and 11 wounded," another police officer, Kalam Khan, told AFP.
Peshawar police chief Mohammad Ijaz said it appeared that the bomb had been detonated with remote control.

He quoted witnesses as saying a man boarded the vehicle and left after leaving a package inside, telling people that he would be back soon. Shortly afterwards, a huge blast ripped through the vehicle.

He said the injured also included two women.

He said no tribal elder was there at the time of the blast and the identity of the target was not immediately known.
