It was last year when a poll conducted by CBS News and New York times showed 69 percent of the American public to be against the war in Afghanistan. Before that in a column published by a retired Army officer, it had been claimed that the US government hides the facts from its public and the congress when it comes to matters relating to the Afghan war.
This Pentagon ex-officer claims to have visited Afghanistan 4 times as part of the war mission. He says having travelled across 15000 kilometres in different provinces of the country; he has come to the belief that they cannot win this war. He is unsure to estimate the number of American soldiers expected to die in Afghanistan over the coming years.
The columnist goes on to claim that the American involvement in Afghanistan doesn't have any positive outcomes. He argues that over the ten years the Americans have failed to establish a productive regime in Kabul. According to him, the most senior Afghan officials are actually involved in drug trafficking. He is shocked to note that American officials keep a blind eye on the issues exposed by their own media about the Karzai administration.
A few days ago, the American Defence Minister Leon Panetta said wars are not conducted on opinion polls rather they are based on strategies. This is a shameful claim by a country's high official which claims to own democracy across the world. When 69 percent of your people are against your mission in Afghanistan, how come you still claim to be democratic; when you do not have any respect for the opinions of your people. These statements by US officials indicate the gravity of their sinister intentions. They are in fact exposing their paradoxical and conflicting views on the world. They show that the American government is and can never be sincere to its own ideology and its own people.
Our message to the white House and Pentagon officials is that your war in Afghanistan is illogical and will not reach a conclusion. Your own people have also come to know that it is an imperialistic war with no connection to the so-called 'war on terror'.
Against you are those fighting Mujahideen, those brave young men who are fighting to defend their legal rights. They are entitled like all other nations of the world to establish a country of their own and establish a government based on their belief, culture and traditions. Before, you lose more manpower, money and political trust, it is better you leave Afghanistan to the people of Afghanistan.
