[karachi-Friends] Why the Media is taking the public as sitting ducks ?

Dear All,

Who is a greater failure in discharge of its responsibilities? The political setup or the media. I think it is the media which has miserably failed  in doing its  basic job; to inform public what is going on in the country. Corrupt politicians are doing it with a bang as there is literally no check and balance in place. The worst  casualty is media. Rather than serving as newspapers the various TV channels are working as digests with handpicked stories on various subjects which  need not be important or of vital public interest. That is without any news value. For example, a small theft or larceny of a few lacs is highlighted, but daily printing of billions of currency notes which has brought the Rupee value to the lowest in the nation's history  is not reported. The failure of collection of state revenues by the FBR is not highlighted. Not to speak of the reason that peoples party favorites have been appointed to make quick bucks from traders and industrialists.  The same music, the same revolving icons and the same news  is thrown at public, as if they are not humans, but sitting ducks. No wonder channels have sprung up as wild fire, but as far news is concerned it has remained elusive.
Why there are no discussions on who failed to make power projects and what the present regime has done in last 4 years to ease the situation. Why not TV programs are restricted to 3 or 4 hours? How much energy could be conserved by shutting off millions of TV sets. Why the cable operators are not restricted to 3 hours. Why they should enjoy the luxury of broadcasting the vulgar Indian movies the whole night?
And there is never a follow up even of important news. A mobile snatcher is caught red handed. In other countries police would find out his accomplices, where he sells the snatched mobiles and the police officers who protect him. So the whole groups could be arrested and taken to task. But no such breakthroughs are ever reported. Police is doing what it has done before. But why not the bright media does the follow up and reach at the root of the crimes?
Why the channels treat people as senseless animals. If there is no cricket match of Pakistani team, why they show foreign cricket matches which are of no interest to public. And they show the very same advertisements as if it is their right to earn from those advertisements. Why the newspapers can not bring fewer pages and save cost of the subscribers if there was no sport event worth reporting? Why people must see huge portraits of female  tennis players or athletes just to fill the sport pages?
I think it is about time media decides on whose side it is ? Public or politicians who rule the roost?
