[PF:165581] Shahbaz''s foreign investment not more than 18pc: Sharif''s family

LAHORE: A spokesman of Sharif Family, while replying to queries raised by some quarters about the detail of assets submitted by the Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to the Election Commission of Pakistan, has said that total size of foreign investment of the Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is not more than Rs. 30 million, which was made by him during the period of his exile in the United Kingdom to arrange finances for him and his family members when he was under treatment for serious disease in London.

The Spokesman disclosed that the Chief Minister has decided to transfer his foreign assets, in which his personal investment was not more than 18 percent and the rest of the amount was in the shape of loans, back to Pakistan, after selling them off and clearing all financial obligations.

This was maintained by the spokesman in a letter addressed to the media organizations which contains as under:

There are certain news and comments aired and printed in a section of the media about the details of assets submitted by the Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Various questions have been raised in these news and comments about the foreign assets of the Chief Minister Punjab. The Sharif Family has already made it clear that total size of foreign investment of the Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is not more than Rs. 30 million which was made by him during the period of his exile in the United Kingdom to arrange finances for him and his family members when he was under treatment for a serious disease in London.

It may also be pointed out that after his return from the UK; no addition has been made in this investment. Moreover, the Chief Minister has also decided to transfer his remaining foreign assets (in which his personal investment is not more than 18 percent and the rest of the investment is based on loans) back to Pakistan after selling them and paying off all financial obligations. In the light of this decision of the Chief Minister, the process of selling of his assets in the UK and paying of bank dues has already been started.

I would also like to address the question why the Chief Minister launched this business in the UK. The simple answer is that Shahbaz Sharif had to make it during the difficult days of his imposed exile when Dictator Pervez Musharraf made it virtually impossible for the Sharif Family in Pakistan to earn their livelihood by applying a spate of nefarious tactics. The details of despicable steps taken by the despot for the economic genocide of the Sharif Family need not any repetition as details are already well know to the people of Pakistan.

I am hopeful that these submissions will provide a better understanding and judgment of the facts and you will be able to see them in the light of their true prospective.
