{ISTABA} Islamic Relief USA - Syria (Winter) Emergency Relief.

The situation

· A severe winter storm has added to misery and danger for refugees and other vulnerable across the Middle East.

· Meteorologists in the region have called winter storm Alexa the worst in more than 100 years.

· UNRWA says people's lives and health are at grave risk

· Around the region:

o Syria, Lebanon and Jordan

§  Refugees and impoverished local residents in Lebanon and Jordan are trying to stay warm enough to survive with little more than a piece of fabric to protect them from the elements.

§  Temperatures dropped below freezing in areas where refugees are living in informal settlements, in tents not built to withstand the harsh weather.

§  Leaks have soaked people's blankets and mattresses, leaving people without a dry place to sleep, or any way to get warm.

§  Roofs constructed from simple materials such as metal sheets have collapsed under snow.

§  There are still more than 2 million Syrian refugees in region and more than 6 million displaced inside Syria. (United Nations).
