The Day of Dignity is an annual nationwide campaign - now in its ninth year - that is coordinated and sponsored by Virginia-based Islamic Relief USA. Last year's campaign benefited more than 17,500 people across the nation by providing food, clothing, school supplies, blankets, hygiene kits, medical care and screenings, HIV/AIDS testing through collaboration with the US Department of Health and Human Services, job training and GED information, haircuts, and toys for children, and much more.
With 50 million Americans living in poverty, including 17 million children, Day of Dignity events create an opportunity for caring individuals from diverse communities to provide services to their neighbors in need. Other cities holding events throughout the fall are Washington, DC, Seattle, Ft. Lauderdale, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, West Palm Beach, Baltimore, Dallas, Detroit, Las Vegas, Brooklyn, Bronx, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Portland, and Flint.
In an effort to serve humanity, The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Florida Inc. a Florida based nonprofit 501c (3), coordinates it's efforts with Project Downtown Tampa and Islamic Relief to bring the Day of Dignity to Hillsborough County's homeless and marginalized communities. The Day of Dignity also provides beneficiaries with information about important resources available to them in their time of need. Moreover Day of Dignity fosters the spirit of service and volunteerism in the community.
