CAIR Florida is hiring! Since last week we have received 18 qualified applicants for the position of Islamophobia & Communications Director. Islamophobia and Communications Director

 

The Islamophobia & Communications Director (ICD) is primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of CAIR Florida's Communications and Countering Islamophobia initiatives state wide. In addition the ICD is responsible for the execution of CAIR Florida's vision and mission.

 

Responsibilities :

 

Responsible for maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholder communities in Florida that include nonprofit organizations, federal, state and local government entities, adult educators, advocacy and faith based groups. Through these relationships the (ICD) will advocate for the needs of American Muslims to dispel the misunderstanding that fosters Islamophobia, through relationship building, educational programs , campaigns, and civic service


Responsible for implementing CAIR Florida initiatives to counter Islamophobic and/or anti-Islam/Muslim activities and events. The ICD will be responsible for researching, educating and mobilizing the Florida community to contest anti-Islam/Muslim hate. Examples of such Islamophobic initiatives include attempts to ban text books that teach about Islamic history in public schools, attempts to pass anti-Muslim legislation, attempts by political groups, law enforcement, and government to invite known anti-Muslim bigots to promote hatred of Islam and Muslims, etc.


 Responsible for working closely with the Government Relations Coordinator on  issues effecting community including anti-sharia bill and Islamophobia comments by public officials, by coordinating activities, scheduling work assignments and setting priorities under the direction of the Chief Executive Director and Regional Operations Director.


Responsible for developing a wide range of materials in support of the CAIR Florida's Islamophobia department such as action alerts, factsheets and reports on anti-Islam/Muslim hate groups in Florida. With this information the ICD will develop a comprehensive proactive project program that incorporates organizational values to actively participate with community based coalitions to include educational seminars, workshops and discussions programs. 


Responsible for developing, implementing and executing CAIR Florida's overall communication strategy to include website maintenance and updates, daily media report, emails, press releases action alerts, publications, mailers, newsletters, phone calls and all other forms of communication to the Florida community.


Responsible for developing and maintaining a list of media contacts and professionals.


Responsible for the execution of the CAIR Florida master strategy regarding all protocols involving Islamophobia. ICD will also assist the civil rights departments with non-legal aspects of civil rights cases/projects, such as coordinating campaigns to gather public support for our causes. Some Islamophobia projects will have legal aspects, as such project strategies should be discussed with CRD before implementation to ensure the legal claim is properly preserved.

 

 

Qualifications :

 

Bachelor's degree and/or extensive experience in working with a nonprofit organization or in a related field


Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience in using the Internet and various social media networking sites.


Strong initiative and the ability to learn in a self-directed manner


Organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple tasks


Able to drive throughout Florida for events and outreach


Comfortable working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment


Excellent oral and written communication skills


Strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR Florida's mission

Important Note:

 

This position is fast paced and requires travel statewide. Base of employment will be in Central/Tampa Florida. This position IS NOT a desk job and requires a highly motivated individual.
