Fundamentals of Model Risk Management and Modeling Under Basel

I have the pleasure to announce Data and Investment Consult Lebanon pioneer workshop aiming at giving a better understanding of the key risks faced by banks and how these risks are modeled and addressed by regulators under Basel II & Basel III, and internal economic capital models. An overview of lessons learned and best practice in the identification, monitoring and management of risk while understanding Challenges in Model Risk Management.

Course Objectives

The goal of this workshop is to understand how risks are modeled categorised, quantified, monitored and managed within banks. Specifically, participants will be equipped to:

• Identify, categorise and quantify credit, market, liquidity, operational, legal, regulatory and reputation risks

·         Basic Basel requirements on models

·         The role of the Board relating to models

·         Role of senior managers in managing model risk

·         Procedures prior to authorising and implementing a model

·         Requirements with regard to validating a model

·         Gain the skills to:

·         Build credit risk models using state of the art methods

·         Validate credit risk models

·         Understand the vulnerabilities of credit risk models using stress tests

·         Explore methods to:

§  Backtest and benchmark PD, LGD and EAD models

§  Evaluate data quality, model design and use testing

Target Audience

Bankers, internal auditors, regulators and analysts but is also appropriate for a broader audience who wish to gain insight into the risk management process and how capital is allocated. The course is targeted at an intermediate level and assumes a basic understanding of banking products.
